Join the Northern CA Recycling Association’s (NCRA) Membership Engagement and Activities Committee (MEAC) for a day of fresh air, scenic views, and community connection. We’re heading to the beautiful Berkeley Hills for a kid-friendly, stroller-accessible trek that’s perfect for recyclers and Zero Wasters of all ages!

Ready to temporarily swap the blue bin for the green hills of Tilden Regional Park? We can't wait to see you there!

    ️ ️Event Details

    • Sunday, June 7, 2026
    • Start Time: 10:00 AM. We’re kicking off at 10:00 AM to beat the summer heat and secure parking before the crowds arrive!
    • Total Duration: Approximately 3–4 hours (includes a leisurely lunch at Wildcat Peak, a.k.a. the stone circle).
    • The Hike: Nimitz Way Trail—a wide, paved, and stroller-friendly trail offering 360-degree views of the San Francisco Bay Area, Berkeley Hills, Oakland Hills, Tilden Regional Park, San Pablo Reservoir, and Briones Regional Park Hills.

    Location & Parking

    The Game Plan

We will hike roughly 1.5 hours out to a scenic overlook (Wildcat Peak, a.k.a. Stone Circle), enjoy a zero-waste picnic lunch, and then head 1.5 hours back. The hike is about 4-5 miles round trip.

    What to Bring:

    • Water: There is no drinking water at the parking lot—please bring enough for the whole family!
    • Zero-Waste Lunch: Pack it in, pack it out.
    • Sun Prep: Sunscreen and hats are a must for this open-ridge trail.
    • Facilities: Restrooms are located right at the Inspiration Point parking lot.
    • Note on Furry Friends: While Nimitz Way is popular with people and their dogs on-leash, dogs are not allowed on certain connecting trail loops (like Wildcat Peak, which is where we will have lunch). To keep things simple for the group, it may be best to leave pups at home for this specific outing.

    Getting There: Transit & Accessibility

In the spirit of sustainability, consider using the Bay Area's transit network! Here are the best resources to plan your trip:

    • Comprehensive Planning: Use the Transit 511 Trip Planner to create a door-to-door itinerary to Tilden Park.
    • Schedules: Check the Bus Schedules and Route Finder for specific park bus lines and maps.
    1.  AC Transit Line 67 is the primary, and often only, direct option to access Tilden Regional Park from the Berkeley area, particularly on weekends. While it serves the park, it generally runs to the Canon Drive/Shasta Road area rather than directly to Inspiration Point, which often requires a hike, connecting bus, or using the 511 system for specific, updated weekend schedules.
    2.  Weekend Access: On weekends and holidays, AC Transit Line 67 is noted to run into Tilden Regional Park, serving areas like the Little Farm and Merry-Go-Round.
    3.  Alternative/Nearby: For reaching Inspiration Point, hikers often use the 67 to reach top-of-the-hill points and walk, or check the 511.org transit planner for specific weekend, combined route options.
    4.  North Berkeley BART Access: The 67 route is accessible from downtown Berkeley (near Downtown Berkeley BART), which is one stop from North Berkeley BART on the Richmond line.
    5.  Note: Bus routes and schedules can change, especially on weekends, so it is highly recommended to check the AC Transit website or the 511 app before traveling.
    • Accessibility: For information regarding Accessible Transportation in the SF Bay Area, visit 511.org or call 511.
    • Bikes on Transit: Planning to pedal part of the way? Check Bike East Bay for tips on combining biking and public transit.

You are invited to join us on June 17 for our 3rd annual Advocacy Day in over a decade!

This interactive event runs from 9am - 4:30pm, including lunch and a light breakfast. Optional no-host happy hour following our legislative visits.

The 2026 program includes presentations from Joanne Brasch, Director of Advocacy and Outreach, California Product Stewardship Council (CPSC) and Krystal Raynes, Policy Associate, Californians Against Waste (CAW), and more.

Topics include legislation basics, EPR and how to lobby effectively. We’ll also go over NCRA’s priority bills for the day and “role play” practice meetings with legislators and their staff. After lunch we’ll have meetings with legislative staff members or perhaps legislators!

Visit our Legislative Tracker for a brief overview of what's on our radar.

Let us know who your legislators are. You can look up yours here:
