This first-of-its-kind project has engaged over 30 restaurants and coffee shops in Petaluma - big brand partners like McDonalds, KFC, and Starbucks, as well as locally owned businesses, to make reusable cups the default option. The system has no deposit and many return bin locations.
An option for requesting home pickup is also available. Because of the diverse geographical footprint including a walkable downtown, mixed suburban area, and rural outskirts, this pilot will serve as a trial to inform how reuse may find success in different communities.
This two-hour event will begin at 10am at the Petaluma Community Center at 320 McDowell Blvd. Petaluma, CA 94954. The debrief/discussion will be in conference room 2. Map details [...].
Participants will break up into groups and visit a few locations that are part of the pilot program. After that, the whole group will reconvene for a debrief discuss reusable food ware systems.
